Tuesday - at last - it happened.
The rigid buds unclenched their fists,
Shed the armor that had sheltered their sweet treasure,
Protecting from snow and ice and howling winds.
They opened to reveal the honeyed green of new growth,
Blossoms - tender splashes of pink, white, yellow.
The trees raised their limbs,
Lifted up the fresh faces in their arms
to be kissed by the sun.
And our hearts lifted with them.
